About

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by art. My favorite trips as a child were to the Art Institute in Chicago or the Museum of Contemporary Art—when my family took a trip to New York, I threw a fit because I didn’t want to leave the Met. Unfortunately, a love for art didn’t turn into intrinsic artistic capability, so this blog is my way of remaining in tune with both the craft I admire and the city I love.

My name is Sahi Padmanabhan, and I’m a current junior at DePaul University studying journalism and computer science. I was the Illinois representative at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in 2015 and I’ve remained committed to my goal of being a journalist ever since. I’ve received both state and national awards for my writing, including a ranking of Superior for review writing in National Scholastic Press Association write-off competitions (2014, 2015) as well as a Golden Eagle for Web from the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association (2015) for my work editing my high school news website. For that same website, I also won the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Crown Award (2016). I gained professional experience when I interned at the Times of India in Bengaluru, India, reporting for their metro section for a month.

With this blog, I hope to open your eyes and minds to the amazing work being done in this incredible city we live in. There’s no need to look to New York or Los Angeles or some other large city for beautiful art—there is some amazing and inspiring work going on right here at home.
